Here begins my attempt at blogging. What’s the end goal of starting this blog? Can’t say for sure, so I’d prefer to leave it open ended. I do know that things have a way of snowballing and growing before you even realize it. Today it’s just sitting down and writing an introductory blog about what Optimal Health and Performance is and some of the services we offer. Tomorrow it may be discussing the benefits of combining strength training with high volumes of cardio, or it may be the physiological response of a chiropractic adjustment and its impact on pain and spinal mobility. 5 years from now, maybe I’ll be invited on Joe Rogan and change his mind on chiropractors.. who knows!
In the short term, I want discuss topics that myself and other people will be interested in reading. I, Dr. Brian Trautman, have no shortage of interest I’d like to discuss and share with others. With my background in athletic training and sports injuries, strength and conditioning that comes along with my CSCS, and my chiropractic degree puts me in a unique position to discuss a wide array of topics.
On the surface level, these 3 different specialties may seem like their own separate topics. I, however, think they mesh very well together. Sports medicine, strength & conditioning, and chiropractic all combined have the best outcomes in treating spine related injuries and in terms of living an active and healthy lifestyle.
That’s what OHP is all about, being a healthcare office that provides this 3-pronged approach to living a healthy lifestyle now and in the future. So many chiropractic offices solely focus on adjusting the spine. Don’t get me wrong, I love adjusting the spine, it’s the most powerful skillset I have in my toolbox of skills. But I’m also not under the allusion that chiropractic fixes all. Sometimes people need specific training and strengthening of deep muscles that help provide stability to the spine and the body in general. If the spine is the foundation of the body, which I believe it is, then a stable foundation is key. This where the strength and conditioning and sports med background come in. But wait, there’s more! Muscles can get injured, ask anyone who grew up playing sports and who are active adults. That’s where the sports med specifically comes in, rehabbing and soft tissue work on injured muscles, ligaments, and tendons is paramount in having a high functioning body.
Let me make this clear, I know not every person is training for a marathon or hitting the gym hard on the daily. The daily wear and tear of working an office job and raising kids has its own physical demands. These demands cause the slow buildup of issues that seem to appear out of thin air but can be even more debilitating than a sports injury. This slow onset of issues is where degeneration in the spine and body often occur.
Therefore, anyone with a spine and muscles is welcome at Optimal Health and Performance. Performance is different for every individual, and I want to help people reach their performance goals. If you’re marathon training, attempting a squat PR, walking around the block, or sitting through a movie or office meeting for 2 hours, you’re welcome at OHP with open arms (professionally of course...).
